"...To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it
go,
to let it go."

Spiritual Emergence Counseling
"I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in the darkness, the astonishing light of your own being." Hafiz
Kevin P. Maloy, MA, LMHC
I operate from a humanistic/existential/transpersonal orientation, acknowledging the fact that you are the expert of your own experience and no one is capable of knowing you better than yourself. I have training in lifespan integration, CBT, CPT, mindfulness, mindfulness-based CBT, CBT for psychosis, somatic experiencing, EMDR, hypnotherapy, and addiction recovery. I am also a Washington State/nationally accredited supervisor (ACS).
My approach to counseling is informed by my own experience of making it through pain, loss, and confusion over the years- I wouldn't be who I am without having gone through what I have gone through; in that way I honor the tradition of the "wounded healer" and believe that connection with someone who understands is a vital component of the healing process.
I like to think that I walk the walk as well as talk the talk, and, although I love books, anything in me that might be seen as "wisdom" comes from real life experience.
I grew up in San Diego, majored in comparative religion and philosophy at U.W., received a masters degree from Argosy University. I have worked in community mental health and recently helped to create a mental health program at a drug and alcohol recovery center. I love soccer, reading, writing, cycling, music, poetry, traveling, dreaming, breathing, meditating, philosophy, and simply being.
